Frequently Asked Questions?

  • Does Permanent Make Up Hurt?
Pre Numb is applied before your appointment and Secondary Numb/ Anaesthetic is applied several times during. Pain and discomfort is minimal. The area may be a little sensitive after the procedure but nothing more than a sun burnt sensation when wiping them. Swelling and redness may also be visible. Everyone's pain threshold is different but I will do everything during your appointment to keep you as relaxed and comfortable and possible.

  • How Long Does the Procedure Take?
A full Permanent Makeup Appointment can take anywhere between 2.5 and 3.5 hours. Our templating is the most important part and we spend time ensuring the shape is correct before beginning your treatment. This is our total guidance and needs to be correct. It's crucial you say if you are unhappy with any part of the template. Top ups can take anywhere between 1 and 2 hours however if aftercare is followed this appointment should be quick and easy.

  • My Brows/ Lip Colour has disappeared is this normal?
Yes this is totally normal! Once the scabbing phase is over the pigment underneath can appear very pale and non existent. The pigment pushes back through the skin and will continue developing in to the healing process. DO NOT PANIC. If you read the aftercare fully and follow all advice provided you will have wonderful healed results. I am confident in my work and I also know that when aftercare isn't followed it really does show. I would be lying if I said the healing stage is wonderful because it isn't but it is short lived and so worth it when you wake up every day looking made up!

  • What Should I Avoid Before My Treatment?
  • Alcohol
  • Caffeine
  • Ibuprofen
  • Aspirin
  • Coumadin (Blood Thinners)

You should avoid all the above for 48 prior to your appointment. They have adverse affects when opening the skin and can cause excessive bleeding during your procedure; in turn this will impact on pigment retention. No regular medication should be stopped without consulting your Doctor. You should ensure you've drank plenty of water and eaten before your appointment too.

  • Can I have a treatment done if I am Pregnant?
No you cannot have any procedures done if you are pregnant or breastfeeding!
  • Is there health conditions that can stop treatment?
There are various conditions and medications that may impact on your treatment or require doctors consent. If you take any regular medications or have a long term health condition it is always best to come in for a consultation or message us regarding this before you book we can then advise you further.
  • How do you patch test for this treatment?
During your appointment we will make a small scratch in the hair line we will apply pigment and topical anaesthetic to this. I allow 15 mins for a negative test. By opening the skin slightly It allows me to see an instant reaction if there is going to be one. Not in 5 years have I had a reaction to PMU however I will not proceed with any treatment without this. I will re- scratch test for colour boosts also as the smallest change to health can change your reactions to things and I always like to proceed with caution.
  • How long does SPMU last?
How long these treatments last really is down to lifestyle and aftercare. The best technician with the most experience can not maintain your permanent makeup once you've had your second procedure. It is vital you follow all aftercare and advice provided and look after your enhancements. Your brows are there to protect sweat from going into the eyes, this means whatever products you are placing on your forehead or outside factors you allow to reach those areas in turn can affect the way your permanent makeup enhancements last.

If you have a very oily t zone, porous skin or exercise/ sweat excessively you will usually require colour boosts sooner than the 12 months recommended, however this is not always the case.

You must be careful with the products you use on your face anything with Glycolic Acid or Fruity Acids can affect the colour of your pigment. If you go for regular facials/ micro needling advise your technician to avoid these areas if they can. But overall there are various factors that can effect your skin and in turn effect how long your SPMU lasts. What time frame your friends enhancements lasts may not be the case for you as all our lives and skins are different.

Not following Pre Treatment advice and Aftercare is probably the biggest factor that impacts on peoples brows/lips. If you bleed excessively during treatment this can impact on pigment retention and healed results. If you pick or scratch away the scabs before they are ready this will also be a huge factor and often require additional top ups.

Despite all treatments being "semi- permanent" procedures the pigment will stay in the skin indefinitely and require maintenance. Despite top ups being recommended it is important you don’t go over the skin to much to avoid causing scarring or pigment migration. If you are ever at doubt or debating a top up don't ever hesitate to send clear pictures to us in good lighting with no makeup for further advice.

If you are in the sun or use sunbeds it is advised you protect these with SPF 50,  I personally swear by SPF lip balms to cover and protect your brows/lips from UV rays! They are small enough to come anywhere with you and easy enough to apply quickly when needed. (You can usually purchase these from boots, superdrug, amazon, majority of online beauty stores)
